It's telling me my image is too small or too large
Each call sets its own image size requirements — these are chosen by the gallery, not EntryThingy. Here's what the error messages mean and how to fix them.
"This image's longest side is Xpx, but the minimum for this call is Ypx"
Your image isn't large enough in pixels. The call requires images to be at least a certain number of pixels on the longest side (width or height).
How to fix it: - Use Pixel Prep (free, built into EntryThingy) to resize your image: app.entrythingy.com/artist/optimize - Choose the "Jury Submission" preset or enter a custom size that meets the requirement - Re-upload the resized image
Example: If the call requires 1920px minimum and your image is 800px wide × 600px tall, the longest side (800px) is below 1920px. You need to resize it up.
"This image is way too large"
Your image is over 15,000 pixels on one side. This is an extremely high resolution that most calls don't need.
How to fix it: - Use Pixel Prep to resize down: app.entrythingy.com/artist/optimize - Most calls only need images around 1000–3000px wide
What about DPI?
EntryThingy only checks pixel dimensions (e.g., 2000px × 1500px), not DPI. DPI (dots per inch) only matters for printing — it has no effect on how your image displays on screen.
A 2000×1500 pixel image is the same file whether it's labeled 72 DPI or 300 DPI. If a call says "minimum 1920px," you just need the pixel count to be high enough.
If your image editing software asks about DPI when resizing: ignore it and focus on the pixel dimensions instead.
Where to find the requirements
The image size requirements are shown on the upload page for each call. Look for a note like "Minimum 1920px (long side)" near the upload area.
Still stuck?
Try Pixel Prep first. If you're still having trouble, contact the organization hosting the call — they set the requirements and can advise on what they need.
