How can I add custom questions to my call?

1. Navigate to Your Call

Go to Calls → [Your Call Name] → Edit Call

If creating a new call, click Create New Call first.

2. Scroll to the Custom Questions Section

On the call edit page, scroll down until you see "Custom Questions"

3. Click "Add Question"

Click the blue "Add Question" button to create your first question.

A new question card will appear with several fields:

4. Fill in the Question Details

Question Text (required)

  • What you want to ask artists
  • Example: "What are your shipping preferences?"
  • Keep it short and clear

Question Type (required)

Choose from the dropdown:

Textarea Long answer, multiple lines You set the max length (50–2,000 characters)

Multiple Choice Radio buttons, pick one 2–20 options, each up to 200 characters
Checkboxes Checkboxes, pick multiple 1–20 options, each up to 200 characters

Applies to (required)

  • Entry — question appears once on the Application Details page (for the whole submission)
  • Piece — question appears for each artwork on the Upload page

  • Check this box if artists must answer before they can submit
  • Leave unchecked for optional questions

Options (only for Multiple Choice and Checkboxes)

  • Enter one option per line
  • Example: May 1-5, May 6-10, May 11-15

Tip: A single required checkbox with one option (like "I agree to the display terms") works well for consent or terms verification.

5. Add More Questions (Optional)

Click "Add Question" again to add another question. Questions appear in the order you create them.

6. Delete a Question (If Needed)

Each question card has a "Delete Question" button at the bottom.

Warning: If artists have already submitted answers, deleting a question will orphan those answers (they're saved but no longer displayed).

7. Save Your Call

Scroll to the bottom and click "Save Call". Your custom questions are now live — artists will see them when they apply.

What Happens Next?

  1. Artists see your questions when they start their application
  2. Entry-level questions appear on the Application Details page; piece-level questions appear alongside each artwork on the Upload page
  3. Answers are saved when artists submit or save drafts
  4. You can view answers in Entry Detail or download them via CSV export (answers appear as automatic columns)
